My new solo CD, From These Hands, was released to record crowds at the Phillips Exeter Academy library on August 5th, 2004. From These Hands is a collection of Irish tunes, songs, and poetry. The title for the CD came to me in the middle of the night. I had been wondering what the title would be when I awoke around 3:00am. I started thinking about how artists and musicians use their hands. This led to the collaboration with potter Kit Cornell and fabric artist Tinka Pritchett. Their works grace the CD cover and the artistry of photographer Barry Meehan pulled it all together. Joining me on the CD are local musicians Claudia Altemus, Eugene Durkee, Mike Serpa, Bill Thomas, Rodney Miller, my sisters Julie and Mara, and my daughter Alanna. The collection includes slow airs, lively jigs and reels, barndances, songs and a haunting poem. From These Hands can be purchased in local stores, including Exeter Music, Celtic Crossing of Portsmouth, Ireland's Gifts in Portland, ME, and Blackbird Café in Nashua, NH. Capturing the many forms of Irish performing, "Nollaig" brings these together for the Christmas holiday. Instrumentals, songs, dance and storytelling are all wrapped up in one Christmas package. With her whistle, the lonely shepherd calls you to hear the story of Christmas in the ethereal 'Don Oiche Ud i mBeithil'. Drumming and dancing liven things up as Michael Serpa and Alanna Callendrello join Regina and Claudia on 'The Wren'. "We've played with Michael for years and were thrilled he could join us", says Delaney", and as my daughter Alanna performs with us often, it was just natural for her to dance on this CD". For quiet reflection Regina sings 'The Darkest Midnight'. one of the Kylemore Abbey carols, and in Irish - 'Oiche Chiuin' (Silent Night). The instrumentals highlight the sweet sounds of the harp and whistle together with the jigs and slip jigs. On this CD, Regina and Claudia record their favorite Christmas song - The Roches' 'Star of Wonder' and move right into a rousing rendition of the slide ' Star Above The Garter'. Here they are joined by fellow seisiun musicians Gene Durkee, David Levine, and Mike Serpa. Finishing the CD is Claudia's beautiful telling of the traditional Irish story, 'The Christmas Cabin of Carneween'. Music and song are artfully weaved together throughout the story transporting you to a magical place for the holiday season.
